As I write this monthly article, during the first week of September, the summer is about to end. The oppressive heat and humidity will soon give way to the comfortable, mild warm weather we all love. Which is why so many of us choose to live in beautiful South Florida. To those ‘snowbirds’ who are now returning to their winter homes, I welcome you back.
Through writing The Legal Corner, and advertising in Cooppa Guardian for almost ten years, I am often dealing with a ‘senior population’. Potential clients frequently contact me about personal injury claims, which is my specialty.
Individuals who have been seriously injured by the negligent or wrongful actions of others often have their lives turned upside down. In addition to physical and emotional injuries, there are medical bills. If you are employed there are often lost wages. Plus a variety of other expenditures that will frequently add pressure on you, pressure that you certainly do not need, and did not expect.
When you are involved in an accident in which you are injured, you probably have many questions. Who do I contact, what do I need to do? What type of doctor should I be seeing? What are my rights, who are responsible for my injuries, medical bills, property damage and other unexpected losses and costs? A personal injury attorney can provide answers to your questions and the support and strong representation with issues that arise, and will alleviate a great deal of your concerns.
Florida, as most other states limit the amount of time within which accident victims have to seek compensation for expenses such as medical bills, lost income, rehabilitation, physical pain and suffering due to an accident. In any case, the sooner you retain the services of a personal injury attorney, the sooner you can pursue a personal injury claim or lawsuit and receive a personal injury settlement or verdict.
It is also essential to obtain legal representation immediately following an accident, so as to preserve any necessary evidence, obtain photos of the location, damage to the vehicles showing the severity of the crash, and photos of your injuries (such as unsightly bruising, which fade after a few days). Your recollection of the facts of the accident often fade over time, so its best to discuss them with your legal counsel sooner rather than later.
The law firm of Arthur A. Cohen, P.A. will work diligently to obtain a full and fair personal injury settlement for you if you have been injured.
My office handles all types of personal injury claims arising from motor vehicles including: Car accidents, Truck accident, Bicycle accidents, Pedestrian accidents, or any other type of accident.
Another type of claim my office handles frequently is premises liability matters. This involves the legal responsibilities of property owners and occupiers to prevent injuries to personal on their property, especially business invitees. Sometime refereed to as a “slip and fall” cases (see my detailed discussion of this in last month’s issue of the Cooppa Guardian). I handle all types of personal injury claims arising from property accidents. Such as: Slip and Fall Accidents, Negligent Security, Criminal Assaults, Premises Liability – Disrepair, Cruise Ship Accidents.
Another type of claim my office handles are wrongful death claims. This is one in which it is alleged that a person died as a result of another’s negligence. Often, wrongful death claims are as a result of an accident from the following: Construction Scene Accidents, Trucking Accidents, and Warehouse Accidents. However, many other reasons for a wrongful death action abound, and the laws pertaining to this type of claim is complex.
Finally, animal attack claims. The most common involve dog bites. However, many other types of domesticated animals, such as ferrets, cats, and even birds, can also bite humans, and cause severe injuries. The owners of these pets can be liable for the injuries that are caused.
